Wittenberg Takes Step Forward With Win At Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio - The school record for shutouts in a season is now in the books, 12 and counting after a 2-0 road victory over Hiram on a cool, soggy Saturday. Now the Tigers have some other seasonal goals in their crosshairs, and they have a week to prep for the game of their season against Wooster next Saturday.

Wittenberg improved to 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with the win over Hiram, which dropped to 2-13-1 overall and 1-6 in the conference. It was a must-win for the Tigers, who had dropped two of their previous three games to fall squarely onto the NCAC Tournament bubble. Just four teams make the annual tournament, and there remain a host of teams still jockeying for position.

Against Hiram, the Tigers held a commanding 21-4 advantage in total shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Both Wittenberg goals, a first-half tally by senior forward Melissa Gallion and a first-half score by sophomore forward Amanda Farrell, were scored off corner kick plays.

Wittenberg got just one save from sophomore goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke, who gave way to freshman Jordan Bamberger late in the second half. Hiram's goalkeeper was credited with seven saves.
