Tigers Cruise Past Hiram With 2-0 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers came to Edwards-Maurer Field with a job to do and they made sure they took care of it. Needing a win to remain in the mix for the North Coast Athletic Conference postseason tournament, the Tigers came out and easily took care of their conference foe. The Tigers were able to push a goal across in each half to beat the Hiram Terriers 2-0.

Despite only scoring two goals, the Tigers absolutely dominated their opponent from start to finish. Wittenberg's defense was relentless as they prevented the Terriers from getting off a single shot on goal. The Tigers outshot Hiram by a whopping 19-0. Two of those nineteen shots came off the leg of freshman Lisa Rusch and found the back of the Terrier net. Rusch's first goal game off a beautiful assist from her twin sister, freshman Lindsey Rusch, late in the first-half. Her second goal came midway through the second-half and put the Terriers away for good.

The Wittenberg soccer team brightened up a rather gloomy day by not only defeating their opponent, but by also honoring three departing seniors. Barring a collapse from the top teams in the conference, seniors Rachel Ridgeway, Eileen Quinn, and Meredith Belser wrapped up three wonderful careers on Edwards-Maurer Field. The Tiger's remaining games will all be played on the road, as they try to make it into postseason action.

The Tigers are back in action next Wednesday, October 27 when they will travel to Denison to take on the Big Red. The pivotal NCAC match-up is set to begin, under the lights, at 7:00 pm.
