Wittenberg Ties 12th-Ranked DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - In the biggest test of the 2004 season to date, the Wittenberg Tiger women's soccer team turned in a tremendous performance with a pair of rallies to earn a 2-2 tie with 12th ranked DePauw on that Tiger team's home field. Wittenberg moved to 3-0-3 on the season.

DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first half, only to have the visiting Tigers tie things up on the first collegiate scoring connection between the Rusch sisters. Freshman Lisa Rusch scored the goal off an assist from freshman Lindsey Rusch in the 45th minute, a major boost for the Tigers heading into halftime after DePauw had controlled much of the early action.

In the second half, DePauw again took a one-goal lead and Wittenberg again rallied with a late score. Freshman Amanda Farrell scored in the 81st minute off a feed from Lisa Rusch to knot the game. Two overtimes couldn't decide things.

Freshman Meghan O'Rourke, the Rusch sisters' teammate at Worthington Kilbourne a year ago, recorded four saves in goal for the Tigers, who next play on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Mount Union. DePauw outshot the visiting Tigers 16-7 and attempted a whopping 18 corner kicks to Wittenberg's three.
