Women's Lacrosse falls 14-4 to DePauw on Senior Night to close 2024 season

SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team closed its 2024 season Wednesday with a 14-4 loss to DePauw in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Senior Night.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (6-10 overall, 0-6 NCAC), DePauw (8-5 overall, 3-2 NCAC)
  • Venue: Edwards-Maurer Field - Springfield, Ohio
  • Prior to the game, the team held a Senior Night ceremony honoring seniors Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), Kaelynn Ireland (Harrisville, W.Va./Ritchie County), Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) and Kelly Mamula (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome).
  • Wittenberg has completed its 2024 season, as the Tigers will not qualify for the upcoming four-team NCAC Tournament.

Stat Leaders

  • Flick, sophomores Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and freshman Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) scored one goal each for Wittenberg.
  • Chirumbolo McKee and Meek led Wittenberg in caused turnovers with five and four, respectively.
  • In goal for Wittenberg, juniors Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) and Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) played 30 minutes each. Sheridan recorded nine saves to go with seven from Weckerly.
  • Bridget Driscoll led the DePauw offense, recording five points on three goals and two assists.

The Game

  • The game started out as a defensive battle, as the teams played to a 1-1 tie at the end of the first quarter. After DePauw opened the scoring with 11:25 left in the quarter, Roller answered with a goal for Wittenberg with 3:43 remaining.
  • A goal from Meek put Wittenberg up 2-1 with 12:04 left in the second quarter before DePauw answered with nine straight goals stretching into the third period. DePauw led 9-2 at halftime and scored the first goal of the second half.
  • Wittenberg scored twice in the third quarter, getting goals from Flick and Krasnow, and trailed 13-4 entering the fourth.
  • DePauw tallied the lone goal of the fourth quarter, capping the scoring with 3:28 remaining.

Records & Milestones

  • Wittenberg's six wins this season marks its most single-season victories since finishing 8-8 in 2019.
  • Wittenberg is now 7-5 all-time against DePauw.
  • Third-year head coach Becca Joseph, who played at Wittenberg from 2014-2017 and holds program records for career points (328) and assists (138) and ranks second all-time in goals (190), is now 13-36 at the helm of the Tigers.
  • Flick has 179 career points on 152 goals and 27 assists. She ranks fifth all-time at Wittenberg in goals and is tied for seventh all-time in points. She finishes with team-highs of 79 points, 66 goals and 13 assists on the season and has 29 career hat tricks.
  • Roller has 46 goals and nine assists for 55 points this season. She has 71 career points on 61 goals and 10 assists and has 10 career hat tricks.
  • Sheridan has 334 career saves, which ranks sixth all-time at Wittenberg. Weckerly has 230 career saves.
  • Chirumbolo McKee ranks sixth all-time at Wittenberg with 73 caused turnovers in her career.
