Flick records 11th hat trick of season as Women's Lacrosse falls 20-9 at Wooster

WOOSTER — Senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) recorded her 11th hat trick of the season as the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team fell 20-9 at Wooster in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Basics

  • Records: Wittenberg (6-7 overall, 0-3 NCAC), Wooster (9-2 overall, 1-1 NCAC)

Stat Leaders

  • Flick led the Tigers with four points on three goals and one assist. She added a team-high four draw controls.
  • Sophomores Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) scored two goals each.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) and freshman Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) tallied one goal apiece.
  • Freshman Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) recorded one assist.
  • In goal for the Tigers, junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) recorded 13 saves in 30 minutes, and junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) added nine saves in the remaining 30 minutes.
  • Kenzie Smith led the Wooster offense with five goals.

The Game

  • Burnside scored the first goal of the game just 48 seconds in, but Wooster answered with three straight goals.
  • Wittenberg outscored Wooster 3-2 over the final 10:04 of the first quarter to get within one, 5-4, going into the second. Flick scored twice in that span to go with one goal from Meek.
  • Roller scored 39 seconds into the second quarter to tie the score at 5-all.
  • After a pair of Wooster goals, Wyse found the back of the net for the Tigers to get back within one, 7-6, with 10:09 left in the second period. But the Fighting Scots closed the quarter on a 4-0 run for an 11-6 hlaftime edge.
  • Wooster outscored Wittenberg 7-1 in the third quarter to take an 18-7 lead into the fourth. The Tigers' goal came via Flick on a free position shot.
  • The Scots scored two straight goals to open the fourth quarter before Wittenberg capped the scoring with goals from Roller and Meek over the final three minutes.
  • Wooster out-shot Wittenberg by a 52-14 margin and finished with a 24-5 edge in ground balls.

Records & Milestones

  • Wittenberg is now 17-42-1 all-time against Wooster.
  • Third-year head coach Becca Joseph, who played at Wittenberg from 2014-2017 and holds program records for career points (328) and assists (138) and ranks second all-time in goals (190), is now 13-33 at the helm of the Tigers.
  • Flick has 166 career points on 141 goals and 25 assists. She is ranks seventh all-time at Wittenberg in goals and is 10th all-time in points. She has a team-high 66 points, 55 goals and 11 assists on the season. She has 27 career hat tricks.
  • Roller has 37 goals and eight assists for 45 points this season. She has 61 career points on 52 goals and nine assists and has eight career hat tricks.
  • Sheridan has 303 career saves, which ranks sixth all-time at Wittenberg. Weckerly has 209 career saves.
  • Senior Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) ranks sixth all-time at Wittenberg with 65 caused turnovers in her career.
