SPRINGFIELD — Senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) reached the 50-goal mark on the season as the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team opened its North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with an 18-6 loss to Denison on Saturday.
The Basics
- Records: Wittenberg (6-5 overall, 0-1 NCAC), Denison (7-4 overall, 1-0 NCAC)

- Denison received votes in this week's USA Lacrosse NCAA Division III Top 20 poll and ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Top 25 poll. The Big Red have played five ranked teams this season.
Stat Leaders
- Flick recorded a hat trick, scoring four of the Tigers' seven goals in the game to put her at 50 on the season and tie her single-season career high in goals from her sophomore campaign. She now has 10 hat tricks this season. Her 60 points this season are a single-season career best.
- Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) added two goals for Wittenberg.
- Roller and sophomore Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) led Wittenberg in draw controls with three each.
- Senior Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had a team-best five caused turnovers.
- Sophomore Haley Pitman (Loberty Township, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) led the Tigers in ground balls with eight.
- Junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Tigers and recorded a career-high 23 saves.
- Anna DeVuono led the Denison offense with five goals.
The Game
- The teams played a tightly contested first quarter. Denison opened the scoring with a goal just 37 seconds into the game, but Wittenberg responded with consecutive goals from Flick to take a 2-1 lead with 6:27 left. Denison scored twice over the final five minutes of the period, though, to take a 3-2 edge into the second.
- The Big Red scored first in the second quarter, but Flick answered to keep the Tigers within one, 4-3, with 13:28 remaining. Three straight goals from DeVuono stretched the Denison lead to 7-3 before Flick capped the scoring in the quarter with a goal with 31 seconds left to cut the Tigers' deficit to three going into halftime.
- Denison outscored Wittenberg 6-2 in the third quarter to take a 13-6 edge into the fourth. Roller scored both of the Tigers' third-quarter goals.
- Denison closed the game by outscoring Wittenberg 5-0 over the final 15 minutes.
- Denison out-shot Wittenberg by a 48-13 margin and finished with a 45-20 edge in ground balls.

Records & Milestones
- Wittenberg is now 7-47 all-time against Denison.
- Third-year head coach Becca Joseph, who played at Wittenberg from 2014-2017 and holds program records for career points (328) and assists (138) and ranks second all-time in goals (190), is now 13-31 at the helm of the Tigers.
- Flick has 160 career points on 136 goals and 24 assists. She ranks eighth all-time at Wittenberg in goals and is 10th all-time in points. She has a team-high 60 points, 50 goals and 10 assists on the season. She has 26 career hat tricks.
- Roller has 34 goals and eight assists for 42 points this season. She has 58 career points on 49 goals and nine assists and has eight career hat tricks.
- Sheridan has 285 career saves, which ranks seventh all-time at Wittenberg. Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) has 192 career saves.
- McKee ranks sixth all-time at Wittenberg with 65 caused turnovers in her career.
