Women's Lacrosse cruises to 20-2 win over Hanover

SPRINGFIELD — Led by senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon), who recorded a hat trick in the first quarter as part of a six-goal game, the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-2 win over Hanover on Wednesday night.

The Basics

Stat Leaders

  • Flick added a career-high four assists to her six goals for a career-best 10 points in the game. She also had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Her goal total matched her career-high.
  • Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) scored a season-high five goals for her fifth hat trick of the season to go with one assist for six points. Her goal total matched her career-high from her freshman season, and she added a team-best eight draw controls.
  • Freshman Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) scored three goals for her second career hat trick.
  • Freshman Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) added two goals.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Burnside (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) recorded four points on one goal and three assists.
  • Sophomores Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and Maren Raymond (Louisville, Ky./Ballard) and freshman Margaret Pickrel (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) added one goal each for the Tigers.
  • Junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) got the start in goal for the Tigers, making two saves in 15 minutes and earning the victory to improve to 1-1 on the season. Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) played the second quarter and recorded three saves. Freshman Jorja Williams (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) played the second half and posted five saves.

The Game

  • Wittenberg outscored Hanover 6-1 in the first quarter.
  • Flick scored four minutes into the game, and Raymond found the back of the net 47 seconds later.
  • After a Hanover goal, the Tigers closed the quarter with a 4-0 scoring run, getting two goals from Flick and one each from Krasnow and Wyse.
  • The Tigers extended that scoring run to 14-0 over the final three periods, outscoring Hanover 5-0 in the second quarter and 6-0 in the third to go with three goals to begin the fourth for a 20-1 edge before Hanover scored its second goal of the game.
  • Krasnow scored twice in the second quarter to go with one goal each from Roller, Flick and Wyse.
  • Flick and Roller scored two goals apiece in the third period to go with one goal each from Burnside and Meek.
  • The Tigers got two fourth-quarter goals from Roller and one from Pickrel.
  • Wittenberg out-shot Hanover by a 37-16 margin and won 18 of 24 draw controls.
  • The Tigers finished with a 23-10 edge in ground balls.

  • Third-year head coach Becca Joseph, who played at Wittenberg from 2014-2017 and holds program records for career points (328) and assists (138) and ranks second all-time in goals (190), is now 12-30 at the helm of the Tigers.
  • Flick has 148 career points on 126 goals and 22 assists. She ranks eighth all-time at Wittenberg in goals and is four points shy of entering the program's all-time top 10 list in that category. She has a team-high 48 points and 40 goals this season and is tied with Roller with a team-best eight assists. She has 24 career hat tricks.
  • Roller has 27 goals and a team-high eight assists for 35 points this season. She has 51 career points on 42 goals and nine assists.
  • Sheridan has 258 career saves, which ranks 10th all-time at Wittenberg. Weckerly has 192 career saves.
  • Senior Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) ranks ninth all-time at Wittenberg with 57 caused turnovers in her career.
