Flick nets four goals as Women's Lacrosse falls 18-10 at Marietta

MARIETTA — Senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) recorded her sixth hat trick of the season, scoring four goals to lead the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team in an 18-10 loss at Marietta on Wednesday evening.

Stat Leaders

  • Flick added one assist to her four goals, giving her five points in the game.
  • Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) netted two goals and had a team-high six draw controls.
  • Sophomore Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and freshmen Maddy Krasnow (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley), Aubrey Stager (Saline, Mich./Saline) and Essence Wyse (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) scored one goal apiece for the Tigers.
  • Krasnow finished with a team-high five ground balls for Wittenberg.
  • Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) got the start in goal for the Tigers and recorded eight saves in the first half, and junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) recorded six saves in the second half.
  • Mallory Wiles led the Pioneer offense with eight points on seven goals and one assist.

The Game

  • The Tigers built an early 2-0 lead, getting goals from Roller and Flick.
  • Marietta answered with three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead 3:19 left in the first quarter.
  • Roller netted a free-position goal with 1:00 left in the first period, ultimately sending the game into the second tied at 3-3.
  • Flick scored to put the Tigers up 4-3 just 49 seconds into the second quarter, but the Pioneers regained the lead at 6-4 with another 3-0 run.
  • Flick scored her third goal of the game with 2:54 left in the second quarter, but Marietta responded with a goal of its own with 46 seconds remaining to go into halftime up 7-5.
  • The Tigers matched their performance from the first half in scoring the first two goals of the second half, tying the score at 7-7 with 12:38 left in the third quarter. The goals came from Stager and Wyse.
  • The Pioneers answered in a big way, however, putting together a 5-0 scoring run for a 12-7 lead with 3:28 left in the third quarter.
  • Meek capped the third-quarter scoring with a goal with 1:48 remaining to bring the Tigers within four, 12-8.
  • Goals from Krasnow and Flick sandwiched a Pioneer goal to begin the fourth quarter, bringing the Tigers within three, 13-10, with 12:32 remaining.
  • Five straight Pioneer goals extended their lead out to 18-10 with 2:55 left en route to the victory.
  • Marietta out-shot Wittenberg by a 38-22 margin and finished with a 30-20 edge in ground balls.

  • This marked the first all-time meeting between Wittenberg and Marietta.
  • Third-year head coach Becca Joseph, who played at Wittenberg from 2014-2017 and holds program records for career points (328) and assists (138) and ranks second all-time in goals (190), is now 11-29 at the helm of the Tigers.
  • Flick has 134 career points on 117 goals and 17 assists. She is three goals and 18 points shy of entering the program's all-time top 10 list in those categories. She has a team-high 34 points and 31 goals this season. She has 22 career hat tricks.
  • Roller has 21 goals and a team-high seven assists for 28 points this season. She has 44 career points on 36 goals and eight assists.
  • Sheridan has 251 career saves, which is tied for 10th all-time at Wittenberg. Weckerly has 179 career saves.
  • Senior Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) ranks ninth all-time at Wittenberg with 55 caused turnovers in her career.
