Women's Lacrosse defeats Spalding 17-0 for first shutout since 2013

SPRINGFIELD — The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team defeated Spalding 17-0 on Thursday evening, marking the Tigers' first shutout since 2013.

  • Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) earned the win in goal, improving to 4-1 on the season. She got the start in goal and recorded two saves. Junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) played the second quarter and made one save. Freshman Jorja Williams (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) played the entire second half and posted four saves in preserving the shutout.

The Game

  • Roller got the scoring started with back-to-back goals followed by a score from Hehman for a 3-0 Tiger lead with 9:42 left in the first quarter.
  • Two straight goals from Flick and another from Hehman sent Wittenberg into the second quarter with a 6-0 lead.
  • Roller and Essence Wyse scored two goals apiece in the second quarter to go with one from Flick to give the Tigers an 11-0 halftime edge.
  • Flick and Hehman scored one goal each in the third quarter, increasing the Wittenberg lead to 13-0 going into the fourth.
  • A pair of Stager goals bookended scores from Flick and Krasnow over the final 15 minutes.
  • Wittenberg out-shot Spalding by a 31-9 margin and won 12 of the 19 draw controls.
  • The Tigers forced 23 Spalding turnovers and finished with a 29-27 edge in ground balls.

  • This marked the first all-time meeting between Wittenberg and Spalding.
