Senior Jessica Flick surpasses 100 career goals as Women's Lacrosse falls 10-9 in double OT at Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Senior Jessica Flick (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) scored six goals to surpass 100 for her career as the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 in double overtime at Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon.

  • Sophomore Anna Roller (New Albany, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) joined Flick in recording double-figure goals with two.

  • Sophomore Sophia Meek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and freshman Aubrey Stager (Saline, Mich./Saline) recorded one assist each.

  • Stager and senior Zoe Chirumbolo McKee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led Wittenberg in caused turnovers with four each.
  • Junior Gabrielle Weckerly (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes) played 35 minutes in goal and recorded 11 saves. Junior Sidney Sheridan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) played 34:26 in goal and recorded six saves.
  • Kiah Baisden led the Knights with three goals and two assists for five points.

The Game

  • Southern Virginia scored the first two goals of the game, and Roller scored with 40 seconds left in the first quarter to cut Wittenberg's deficit to 2-1 going into the second.
  • After two more Knight goals, Flick tallied a pair of man-up goals to bring the Tigers within 4-3 with 4:19 left in the second quarter.
  • Southern Virginia netted goals with 19 seconds and one second left in the second quarter for a 6-3 halftime lead.
  • The Knights made it a 4-0 scoring run with back-to-back goals to open the third quarter to go up 8-3 with 4:54 remaining.
  • Roller and Flick scored with 3:49 and 1:49 left, respectively, to cut the deficit to 8-5, but the Knights scored with 40 seconds remaining to take a 9-5 edge going into the fourth.
  • The Tigers outscored the Knights 4-0 over the final 15 minutes of regulation, getting three goals from Flick and one from Wyse to tie the score.
  • Flick's man-up goal with 1:25 left ultimately sent the game to overtime.
  • Baisden netted the game-winning goal with 2:34 left in the second overtime period.
  • Southern Virginia finished with a 46-31 edge in ground balls, won 18 of 21 draw controls and out-shot Wittenberg by a 41-19 margin.
