Tigers Fall in Comeback to Trine

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg opened their season at home against the Thunder of Trine. The Tigers would have a battle ahead of them against the Thunder who were selected at the top of the rankings for the MIAA preseason coaches polls. The Red & White played from behind the majority of the match but were able to come back from a nine-point deficit, controlling the third and fourth quarter before ultimately falling with a 13-12 score.

Highlights- Wittenberg's goals were scored by four different Tigers, being led by Jessica Flick with five goals. In the first quarter of play Wittenberg put two on the board with the first two goals of the season coming from Flick unassisted. The Red & White played catch-up in the third quarter, outscoring the Thunder 4-1. Flick picked up a hat-trick in the third quarter, Mya Wolfe got her first goal of unassisted moments later while Grace Hehman put the Tigers fourth goal on the board unassisted. Wolfe came back with her second goal of the game minutes later off of a free position shot to lessen Trines lead to five heading into the final quarter. Scoring in the fourth quarter were Flick and Wolfe again, Jessica Flick was able to tally two in the fourth to give the Tigers their ninth goal of the game. Scoring her collegiate first was Anna Roller with an assist from Mya Wolfe to bring the game within three. Wittenberg brought the energy back with Wolfe scoring unassisted for her fourth goal of the game. With less than 40 second to play Grace Hehman had an impact steal from the Thunder right on top of the crease to score the Tigers 12th goal to bring the game within one.

Splitting time in goal for the Tigers were Gabrielle Weckerly and Sidney Sheridan. The pair had a total of seven saves, facing twenty six shots on the day.
