Close Call for Tigers Ends in Loss

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg was back in action in Springfield for a non-conference match-up against the Pioneers of Transylvania University. The Tigers have only seen the Pioneers twice in program history with the series being split 1-1. Wittenberg who was coming off of a loss against Centre looked to grab their first win of the season against while the Pioneers who were 0-2 on the season looked to do the same.

In Wittenberg's first game of the season they looked to sophomore Jessica Flick and freshman Grace Hehman for offensive power while senior Antavia Horne held down the defense. The Tigers would look to the trio once again against the Pioneers.

Flick got things started with back-to-back goals within 15 seconds to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Transylvania was able to answer back with five unanswered goals before Grace Hehman was able to get through defense with two goals of her own with one assisted by Flick. The Pioneers put one more point on the board before heading into the half with Wittenberg down by one.

The two teams continued to go back-and-forth in scoring with Wittenberg tallying six goals in the second half of play. Tiger goals came from six different individuals including Katie Wadds, Cecilia Critchfield, Hannah Feder, Antavia Horne, Mya Wolfe, and Jessica Flick. Assisting in second half goals were Antavia Horne and Mya Wolfe. Wittenberg's last three goals left the Pioneers with over seven minutes of unanswered goals but Transylvania was able to take away the win with an 11-10 score.

Wittenberg led in ground balls on the day, saves, and free position goals. Eight of the ground balls came from from Antavia Horne. Splitting time in goal for the Tigers were Joanna Stecz, Gabrielle Weckerly, and Sidney Sheridan. The trio had a total of 21 saves after facing 32 shots.

Wittenberg Leaders- The Tigers had seven different individuals score, being led by Jessica Flick with three goals. Antavia Horne led the Red & White in ground balls with eight and draw controls with five.
