Tigers Split Spring Break After Defeating The Pirates

Georgetown, TX- Wittenberg continued their spring break competition against Southwestern out of Texas. The 1-5 Wittenberg team had tough competition with the 4-2 Pirates but were able to bring back a win with a 13-10 score to improve Wittenberg's record to 2-5.

Game Breakdown: A settled Tiger offense put the first goal in the back of the net with Rachel Bernard Scoring unassisted at the 27-minute mark. Southwestern was able to tie the game 1-1 and that would be the last time the Pirates stayed close. Wittenberg put up seven unanswered goals to give them an 8-1 lead in the first half with goals from Sami SkellyBernard (3), Zysik (2), and Cecilia Critchfield. The Pirates were able to put two on the board the end the half and the Tigers went into halftime up with a 8-3 score.

Wittenberg's scoring power settled in the second half, only putting up five more points but were able to handle Southwestern's offense and stay ahead. Joanna Stecz was able to get the ball rolling in the second half with an unassisted goal followed by Sophie Weintraub off of a free position shot. Bernard put to more on the board to give her a total of six goals on the game while Zysik picked up her hat-trick at 5:34. Wittenberg ends their spring break with a split 1-1 record after taking down the Pirates with a 13-10 score.

Key Players: Rachel Bernard dominated on offense with six goals with a 60% shooting percentage. Bernard was able to pick up four ground balls and get the ball away from five Pirates in caused turnovers.

Up Next: Wittenberg will return home to take on Oberlin on March 14th at 1 PM.
