Goal From Meads Gives Tigers An Overtime Win

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg hosted the Adrian Bulldogs for their first competition on Edwards-Maurer Field this season for a rainy game under the lights. The 0-3 Tigers looked for a pick-me-up after three tough losses to start the season. With a close back and forth battle with the Bulldogs, the Tigers first win of the season wouldn't come easy. The two teams headed into overtime where senior, Faith Meads was able to put one in the back of the net to end the game with a 8-7 win over Adrian.

Game Breakdown:  Rachel Bernard was able to get the first shot past Adrian's goalie off of a free position shot at 26:49. Bernard was able to assist the second goal for the Tigers after Libby Wadds got through Bulldog defense to give Wittenberg a 2-1 lead. Getting their last goal of the first half was senior, Faith Meads from a free position shot. Wittenberg went into the half with a tied up 3-3 score.

Wittenberg came out with power in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals with two from Bernard on free position shots and one from Gabby Zysik to give Wittenberg a 6-3 lead. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Adrian was able to tie the game back up again with a 6-6 score before Bernard was able to tab her fourth goal of the game at 7:35. The Bulldogs didn't settle and the game was tied again 7-7 in the remaining minutes to take the ladies into overtime. Tigers were able to end the battle 51 seconds into overtime when Faith Meads ran through Adrian defense to score unassisted and end with am 8-7 score.

Head Coach, Margaret Wolford, said "we worked hard, preservered and made adjustments throughout the game that ultimately helped us come out on top. The kids are tough and the goal is to keep getting better as we move forward."

Key Players: Leading the Tigers on offense was senior captain, Rachel Bernard with four goals with 100% shot percentage. Antavia Horne and newcomer Bailey Hurley picked up three ground balls each while Horne tallied two caused turnovers. In goal was sophomore keeper, Abby Sammons with seven saves with a 50% save percentage on the night.

Up Next: The Tigers will be home again this Friday, March 6th to take on Calvin before heading south for spring break. First draw control is at 4 PM.
