Tigers Take Down Battling Bishops In Road Matchup

Delaware, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team took to the road for an NCAC showdown with the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. The Tigers picked up their first conference win of the season by taking down the Battling Bishops 15-10 on the day. Wittenberg took an 8-5 lead into the half, as the Red and White led Ohio Wesleyan in nearly every statistical category on the afternoon. Josee Clayton and Emily Wadds led the Tiger attack with five goals each. Wadds would also be the lead facilitator of the Wittenberg offense with three assists on the afternoon.

Game Breakdown

Wadds opened the scoring for the Tigers with back-to-back goals, capitalizing on the free position attempts in the first two minutes of action, giving Wittenberg an early 2-0 lead. Josee Clayton tallied her first goal of the game just about a minute later coming off the assist from Wadds. Gretchen Burkey got herself involved in the scoring action with back-to-back goals, with the first coming on the Wadds assist, before scoring her second on the free position shot. Wittenberg slotted three straight goals coming from Wadds and Clayton heading into the half with an 8-5 advantage. The Tigers kept the pressure on in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals to extend their lead over the Battling Bishops. Gabby Zysik tallied the first goal for Wittenberg in the second half coming off the Wadds assist, before Wadds found the back of the net on the Katurah Emery assist. Ohio Wesleyan tallied two goals to get their offense going, before Burkey and Wadds found their way back into the scoring column once again, taking the Tiger lead out to 12-7. Wittenberg closed out the game with three straight goals, starting with a Zysik unassisted goal before Clayton slotted two goals in the final thirty-seconds of action.

Who Stood Out

Wadds would get things started for the Tigers by winning 20 draw controls for the Red and White on the afternoon. Antavia Horne picked up a team-leading five ground balls with five draw control wins to her credit.
