Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Carthage In Return Home

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team returned home from their three-game road trip to battle the Carthage College Lady Reds from Edwards-Maurer Field on a cool Sunday afternoon. The Tigers took down Carthage 13-10 in a back and forth battle, as Wittenberg nearly doubled up the Lady Reds through the first half, leading the count 22-11 at the break. Emily Wadds fueled the Wittenberg offense logging four goals on nine shots, taking 14 draw control wins.

Game Breakdown

After Carthage opened the scoring three minutes into the game, Josee Clayton continued her scoring streak by finding the back of the Lady Reds net on the assist from Madeline Stock, bringing the game back to even at 1-1. After Carthage responded with three straight goals to take the lead 4-1, Wittenberg tallied six consecutive goals with taking a 7-4 advantage into the half. Emily Wadds tallied two goals before the first half expired, capitalizing on a free position attempt. Clayton closed out the half with two goals while assisting on the Antavia Horne and Gabby Zysik goals before the break. In a physical second half which saw five yellow cards displayed, Wittenberg tallied 13 shots through the final 30 minutes of action while causing 13 Carthage turnovers. After Carthage tallied the opening goal to start the second half, Wittenberg responded with back-to-back goals by Zysik and then Wadds to maintain the 9-5 advantage. The Tigers fended off a late Carthage attack through the final minutes, as the Red and White held on for the 13-10 win.

Who Stood Out

Rachel Bernard led the Wittenberg defense with three caused turnovers, adding two ground balls and a draw control win on the afternoon, to go along with her goal and two assists. Stock assisted on three Wittenberg goals on the day, picking up a team-high six ground balls, while forcing two Carthage turnovers. Clayton would add two more goals with two assists and three ground ball picks on the day for the Red and White.
