Women's Lacrosse Defeats DePauw 15-13

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University women's lacrosse team battled the Tigers of DePauw University, outlasting the visiting Tigers of DePauw 15-13. Wittenberg jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first half, as the Tiger offense was led by Victoria Zysik and Emily Wadds with five goals each. Wadds added 17 draw control wins on the night for Wittenberg with three ground balls. Brooklyn Ballenger picked up a team-high six ground balls with two caused turnovers.

 

GAME BREAKDOWN

Out to a quick 3-0 lead with the first three goals coming from the Zysik sisters, one from Gabby and two from Victoria. DePauw put their first goal of the game in at the 23-minute mark, before Wadds tallied her first of three first-half goals, giving Wittenberg a 4-1 lead. Victoria Zysik would assist Wadds on her final two goals of the first half, before scoring with twenty-seconds on the clock to give Wittenberg the 7-5 advantage going into the break. Victoria Zysik would put Wittenberg up 9-6, scoring her fourth and fifth goals coming out of the intermission. Gabby Zysik and Faith Meads would score back-to-back, to give Wittenberg the 11-8 lead over DePauw. Wadds scored her fourth goal, capitalizing on the free position attempt, allowing Witt to maintain the 12-9 advantage. Wittenberg made the best of the player up advantage, scoring two goals with under 15-minutes to play, coming from Gabby Zysik. Wadds would score her final goal with six minutes left, allowing Wittenberg to hang onto the 15-13 win.

 

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 21 with their final road trip of the season when they travel to Allegheny for a 12:00 PM contest.
