Oberlin, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team opened up North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to Oberlin College, falling to the Yeowomen 19-14. The Tigers posted 26 shots on the day, while allowing 41 Oberlin offensive opportunities. Wittenberg picked up 18 ground balls and was successful on 13 of 22 clear attempts on the day. The Tigers won the draw control game in the first half with an 11-6 margin, winning the first possession battle 19-16 at the end of the game. Emily Wadds led the Tiger offense with six goals on eight shots, finding the back of the Oberlin net five times in the second half. Wadds won 12 of the 19 Wittenberg draw control decisions on the day, while picking up a ground ball for the Tigers.
GAME BREAKDOWN
The two sides battled through the first thirty minutes of action with Oberlin taking a 9-7 lead into the intermission. Madeline Stock found the back of the net twice in the first half for the Tigers. Wittenberg facilitated the offense through seven different goal scorers in the first half, including Bre Donnelly starting things off for the Tigers and knotting things up at 1-1 just three minutes into the game. As the battle continued coming out of the break, Gabby Zysik was the last Tiger to score going into the half and she broke the Oberlin four goal streak coming out of the break with her second goal of the day. Wittenberg would add four more unanswered goals after that all coming from Wadds within the span of five minutes as four different Tigers assisted the goals including Shannon Brown, Rachel Bernard, Madeline Stock, and Victoria Zysick. Wadds would add her fifth of the second half with just over seven minutes remaining, this the last time taking it to the goal herself.
