Women's Lacrosse Spring Break Recap

Hilton Head, S.C. – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team packed up and headed down to Hilton Head, South Carolina for their 2018 Spring Break trip where they would play two games, taking on Muhlenberg College and Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Tigers dropped their first game of the trip to the Mules of Muhlenberg College 20-9. The Tigers bounced back on day two of their trip to take down the Wentworth Leopards 21-4 in their final game of the trip. Wittenberg's offense was facilitated by Emily Wadds recording nine goals over the two games, adding five goals and three assists on the second day against Wentworth. The sister combo of Victoria Zysik and Gabby Zysik added five goals to the Tiger total over the two days of action, as Victoria tallied three assists in the second game. With lots to celebrate over the break including her birthday, Gretchen Burkey added to the list her first goal of the season against Muhlenberg. Burkey kept the celebration going with two more goals while picking up five ground balls on day two against Wentworth.

 

GAME ONE

Wittenberg would win the draw control battle in the first half 10-6, adding seven more in the second half. The Tiger's won the draw control category at the end of the day 15-13. The Wittenberg offense would take 21 shots on the day, rattling off 14 in the first half. With 21 shots on the day, the Wittenberg offense placed 15 on target, converting on three of four free position shots in the first half.

 

GAME TWO

After Wittenberg jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game before Wentworth would answer with two goals of their own. The Tiger offense would regain the lead scoring 13 straight goals, holding the Leopard offense stagnant and allowing just eight shots through the first half. Wentworth would score their final two goals just ten minutes into the second half, getting off four shots through the final 30 minutes of action as the Leopards placed six total shots on goal for the game. The Tiger's won the first possession battle, taking the draw control category 21-6 on the day, as Wadds picked up 17 of those 21 wins. Victoria Zysik and Gabby Zysik each tallied four goals against the Leopards. Wittenberg maintained an efficient offensive production, with Bre Donnelly scoring two goals on two shots on target while adding an assist. Rachel Bernard did a little bit of everything, scoring two goals on two shots on four shots, picking up three ground balls and adding two draw controls. The Tigers were a perfect 12 for 12 on clear opportunities in the first half, ending the game 18 for 20. Mary Alyce Furlong picked up her second win in goal for the Tigers, making two saves on six shots against her.
