Margaret Wolford Named New Women's Lacrosse Coach

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg Athletics has announced the hiring of Margaret Wolford as the Tigers next women's lacrosse head coach, and the eighth in school history. Wolford comes to Wittenberg after serving most recently as the offensive coordinator and goalkeepers coach at NCAA Division I Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.

"I am so honored and excited to be a part of the Wittenberg University community. I am eager to continue to build upon the tradition of excellence that is already in place. I would like to thank President Frandsen, Dr. Gary Williams, Jay Owen, and the search committee for their time and effort throughout the process," said Wolford.

After a four-year standout career at Fresno State University, Wolford began her coaching career at Otterbein University, where she was with the Cardinals for one season. The Columbus, Ohio native then continued her coaching career at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. While at Smith, Wolford earned her Masters of Science in Exercise and Sports Studies.

"We are thrilled to have Margaret accept our offer to be our women's lacrosse coach. Margaret comes from a tremendous family tree that is regionally and nationally respected. More important, she has established herself as a very strong coach, teacher and mentor who will bring with her a lot of credibility for our program. Margaret is a great fit in so many ways for Wittenberg, our athletic department and our athletes. I am very much looking forward to seeing all that she will do to help our women achieve success on and off the field in the coming years," said Director of Athletics Dr. Gary Williams.

During her playing days, Wolford was named to the MPSF All-Academic team in 2011, 2012 and 2013, as well as earning offensive MVP honors for the Bulldogs in 2010. While at Fresno State, Wolford earned her degree in Kinesiology.

Wolford currently serves as a coach for Max Elite Lacrosse and Lucky Lax Lacrosse Club in Columbus.

The Tigers finished 11-7 in 2017, earning a trip to the NCAC tournament with an overall conference record of 5-3.
