Tigers Cap Spring Break With 12-2 Romp Against Alfred

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers improved to 3-0 on the young season with a dominating 12-2 win over Alfred that wrapped up a Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State.

The Tigers jumped on top from the outset, racing out to a 10-0 lead by halftime. Substituting liberally throughout the final 30 minutes, Wittenberg cruised the rest of the way to the 10-goal decision.

"It was a great team win today," said Tiger Head Coach Nicholle St. Pierre. "We had everyone contributing on both ends of the field.

"I am happy with our Spring Break trip and starting out our season on a high note. When we get back we will continue to work hard and prepare for two strong non-conference opponents in the upcoming week."

Five different Tigers scored goals in the game, led by junior Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) and sophomore Victoria Zysik (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) with three tallies apiece. Joseph added two assists for five total points, which was matched by senior Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights). She finished with two goals and three assists.

Other Tigers to find their way into the scorebook included freshman Madeline Stock (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) with two goals and one assist, freshman Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) with two goals and one assist, junior Haley Schroeder (Granville, Ohio/Granville) with one assist, and senior Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) with one assist. Sophomore Sarah Farnsworth (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) topped the Tigers in ground balls with a career-high eight, Kubasta showed the way in caused turnovers with six and caused turnovers with four.

In goal, senior Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) registered five saves in the first half and freshman Mary Furlong (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) was credited with three saves in the final 30 minutes.
