Tigers Fall To Regional Powerhouse Augustana 17-11

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Wittenberg Tigers dug a first-half hole from which they were unable to extricate themselves in a 17-11 loss to Augustana in a game played at DePauw.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 7-3 on the season, heading into a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) game against the host Tigers on Saturday, April 11. Augustana improved to 11-1.

Augustana jumped on top with five of the game's first six goals over the opening eight minutes and held Wittenberg at bay from there. The Tigers rallied to within two goals seven minutes into the second half at 10-8, but Augustana responded with a game-breaking five-goal burst to take command again.

For the game, Augustana held a slim 32-26 advantage in shots and a 17-15 edge in ground balls. Both teams committed 19 turnovers, and Wittenberg held the upper hand in draw controls 15-14.

Sophomore Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) led Wittenberg's offense with four goals and two assists, while senior Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) added three goals and one assist. Junior Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) finished with two goals.

Sophomore Rachael Yoho (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) topped the Tigers in ground balls with four, while junior Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and senior Mary Ann White (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) contributed three ground balls apiece. Warye led Wittenberg in draw controls with five, and junior goalkeeper Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) was credited with six saves.
