Wittenberg Women's Lacrosse Announces Recruits In Class Of 2017

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Beth Hemminger has announced that seven student-athletes joined the Tiger program in August 2013. 

The new recruits join a team that compiled records of 12-4 overall and 8-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The Tigers are expected to return 17 letterwinners from a squad that has not lost a conference game since the 2011 season. 

Hemminger is entering her third season at the helm of the program with sparkling records of 24-9 overall and 14-0 in the NCAC. Wittenberg opens the 2014 season March 8 at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, and the Tigers’ home opener is scheduled for March 18 against Adrian College.

The new recruits are: 

  • Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) – Transferring from San Diego State after playing on the varsity team during the 2011-12 school year…2011 high school honorable mention All-America, first-team all-state, first-team all-district honoree…2010 Great Lakes North Coast National Team member…2010 second-team all-district.
  • Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) – Transferring from St. Bonaventure University after starting all 17 games for the Bonnies in 2013…2013 All-Rookie Team…2012 high school honorable mention All-America…2011 and 2012 Academic All-America award-winner…2011 and 2012 first-team All-Ohio and first-team all-district…Rollie Platz Sportsmanship Award…Two-year team captain and team won three straight state titles (2010, 2011, 2012).
  • Anna Bartels (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) – Team’s Rookie of the Year as a sophomore…Team captain as a senior…Led team in goals and earned MVP honor.
  • Becca Joseph (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) – First-team all-city, first-team all-district and secon-team all-state as a senior…Team MVP and second-team all-city in 2012…Team Attack Player of the Year in 2011…Academic All-America in 2012 and 2013.
  • Anna Tarbutton (Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) – Despite a knee injury, scored 39 goals as a senior…Described by Hemminger as having “great vision on the attacking end and a threat behind the cage.”
  • Kelsey Mack (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) – Described by Hemminger as a “versatile player who spent time on the attacking end as well as defense. An athletic player who will provide another scoring threat but can help us out on the defensive end as well.”
  • Haley Schroeder (Granville, Ohio/Granville) – Described by Hemminger as a “speedy midfielder with great vision around the 8-meter. Moves the ball well and does a great job of setting her teammates up to score. Even though she tends to focus more on setting her teammates up, Haley is just as comfortable going to goal.” 

“I am pleased to welcome this outstanding group of young women to the Wittenberg women’s lacrosse program,” Hemminger said. “I look forward to working with them to develop and succeed both academically and athletically at our outstanding university.”
