ALLIANCE, Ohio - After rallying to force a pair of overtime sessions, the Wittenberg Tigers finally ran out of steam in a 14-13 double-overtime loss to host Mount Union.

The Tigers fell to 3-2 on the season, while Mount Union, in just its second year as a varsity program, won its sixth straight game to improve to 6-1.

The two teams battled to a 7-7 draw through the end of the first half and the score was knotted at 12 at the end of the second half. The deadlock and resulting extra sessions occurred, however, only after Wittenberg rallied from a three-goal deficit over the final 10 minutes of regulation.

In the first overtime, Mount Union scored first, but Wittenberg answered on a goal by junior Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) with 2:43 remaining. That forced a sudden-death session that was finished by Mount Union on a goal by Katherine Doraty with 2:43 left.

Eight different Wittenberg players scored goals in the game, led by Warye and sophomore Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) with four apiece. Junior Megan Loofbourrow (Prospect, Ky./Ballard), junior Beth Hubbard (West Hartford, Conn./Notre Dame de Sion (Mo.)), sophomore Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina), senior Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and senior Alie Marousek (Ballston Lake, NY/Portsmouth (NH)) each added one goal.

The only two assists credited to Wittenberg were contributed by Hubbard and Lash. Wittenberg held a narrow 29-25 edge in total shots in the game.

The Tigers committed 19 costly turnovers, compared to 10 for Mount Union, and the Purple Raiders held a 15-14 edge in draw controls, with Murzynski leading all players with six. In goal, sophomore Katie Reuter (Cleveland, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) made five saves.
