Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University’s women’s lacrosse team was one of 254 programs to earn recognition as a 2014 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad.

The award annually honors women’s lacrosse teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative team grade-point average. Wittenberg is one of 125 NCAA Division III programs to earn Academic Honor Squad, and the Tigers are one of five North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) squads to make the list in 2014.

“This is a wonderful statement about the standards of excellence that have been established in the Wittenberg women’s lacrosse program,” said Head Coach Nicholle St. Pierre, who recently took the reins of the program from Beth Hemminger, who is now Ohio Northern’s first-ever women’s lacrosse coach. “I am looking forward to working with these young women to continue to enjoy success on the field and in the classroom.”

Not only did the Tigers excel in their classes in 2014, but they enjoyed one of the finest seasons in program history as well. Wittenberg posted a sparkling overall record of 14-3, which included a third consecutive undefeated record in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). After winning the NCAC regular season title, the Tigers dropped a heartbreaking 14-12 decision in the championship game of the league tournament.

Wittenberg heads into the 2015 season with 15 letterwinners expected to return to the roster, led by first-team All-NCAC attacker Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings), who set a school record with 67 goals in her junior season. In addition, second-team all-league choice Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and honorable mention All-NCAC selection Carrie Kubasta (Medina, Ohio/Medina) will be back in the line-up after outstanding inaugural campaigns in the Red & White.
