Tigers Honor Seniors With Big Win Over Thiel

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Recognition Day and capped off a perfect 3-0 week with a 16-5 victory over visiting Thiel.

Wittenberg defeated North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rivals Wooster and Hiram before dispatching Thiel on a day when seniors Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings), Katie Warner (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy), Elyssa Silva (Golden, Colo./Golden) and Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South). With three games left on the regular season schedule, all against NCAC opponents, the Tigers stand 9-3 overall.

The Tigers scored just 31 seconds into the game, and by halftime Wittenberg held a commanding 9-3 lead. Thiel, which fell to 8-7 on the season, tallied the first and last goals of the second half, but Wittenberg dominated the rest of the action with seven consecutive goals.

For the game, Wittenberg held a 33-17 advantage in shots, while the ground ball count wound up even at 31 apiece. The Tigers held a key 15-8 edge in draw controls, paced by Morrissey with five.

Wittenberg's offense was paced by sophomore Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings), who scored four goals on her first four shots, en route to a career-best seven-point performance. She finished with four goals and three assists to go along with four ground balls.

Morrissey, Guiliano and junior Alie Marousek (Ballston Lake, NY/Portsmouth (NH)) added three goals apiece, with Guiliano also contributing two assists. Guiliano, junior Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and junior Alex Dressman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) each finished with two caused turnovers.

In goal, senior Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) was solid as usual with five saves.
