Tigers Fall At Fredonia State To Finish Busy Weekend

FREDONIA, N.Y.  – The Wittenberg women's lacrosse team finished back-to-back games with a Sunday loss to undefeated Fredonia State by a final score of 12-5.

The Tigers fell to 6-3 overall with the loss while the Blue Devils improved to 10-0.

Wittenberg stayed close during a hard-fought first half, trailing by just two goals at 5-3 after the opening 30 minutes. Fredonia State gained some distance with two goals to open the second half, finishing the period with a 7-2 scoring advantage.

Senior Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) led the offensive charge for Wittenberg, scoring two goals on three shots, all put on frame.

Junior Francine Murzynski (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) again led both teams with six draw controls in the game and also topped the field with four caused turnovers. She tacked on a goal on three shots.

Junior Nicolette Lyons (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and sophomore Logan Warye (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) each scored one goal, with Warye adding an assist to the mix. Junior Alie Marousek (Ballston Lake, NY/Portsmouth, N.H.) claimed three draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South) posted 11 saves among 30 Fredonia State shots.

The Tigers resume North Coast Athletic Conference competition with a 7 p.m. game against Wooster at home at Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday, April 10.
