Springfield, Ohio — After leading the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team to just its second nine-win season in 20 years, midfielder Joelle Ghanem, class of 2010 from Dublin, Ohio, has earned second-team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-West Region honors.
Ghanem enjoyed a breakout season, just in the nick of time. After accumulating 25 goals, six assists, 36 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers in the first three years of her collegiate career, Ghanem exceeded all of those totals in the 2010 season alone to lead the Tigers in all five categories. She also ranked among the best in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) with 29 goals, 29 assists, 41 ground balls, 28 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers.
As a result, Ghanem became the first Tiger player to earn first-team All-NCAC honors since Katie Babcock in 2004. Her 29 assists rank second on the Wittenberg season record list, while her 58 total points rank ninth. Her 35 career assists put Ghanem sixth in school history.
Ghanem led the Tigers to records of 9-6 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC, good for a fifth-place tie, one game out of the four-team NCAC Tournament.
