Tigers Open Spring Break Trip With Big Win Over Colby-Sawyer

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Wittenberg Tigers kicked off a busy Spring Break trip in style, dominating Colby-Sawyer in a 12-2 victory.

The win moved the Tigers to 2-0 on the young season. They will get right back into action Monday with a contest against the University of Texas-Dallas, followed by the biggest challenge on the 2010 schedule, a date with second-ranked Gettysburg on Tuesday.

As tune-ups go, this one couldn't have gone much better. The Tigers dominated from the opening draw, building a 10-1 lead by halftime and then emptying the bench while working on a variety of new plays and skills over the final 30 minutes. Sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) got the win in goal, playing the first half before giving way to freshman Katie Bondy (Westerville, Ohio/South), who allowed just one goal in her first collegiate appearance.

Offensively, senior Joelle Ghanem (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) led the way with three goals, while sophomore Jenn Close (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest), freshmanKellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and Erin Guiliano (Loveland, Ohio/Kings) added two goals apiece. Sophomore Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls), sophomore Erica Piscitelli (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and sophomore Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood)rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
