Tigers Fall In Spring Break Finale To Nationally Ranked Gettysburg

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Wittenberg Tigers wrapped up the competitive portion of their 2010 Spring Break trip to the Lone Star state with a 16-2 loss to third-ranked Gettysburg. 

The loss was the first of the year for the Tigers, who had beaten Colby-Sawyer and the University of Dallas the previous two days by a combined score of 31-8. Now 3-1 overall, Wittenberg returns to action next week with home games against Tiffin and Albion at Edwards-Maurer Field.

The Bullets gave Wittenberg's goalkeepers a workout as sophomore Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) came up with a whopping 16 saves over the game's first 50 minutes. Senior Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) closed the game with three saves in the final 10 minutes.

Offensively, sophomore Lindsey Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) and junior Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy)scored goals for the Tigers. Assists were credited to freshman Kellen Morrissey (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and sophomore Krissy Battles (Kingwood, Ohio/Kingwood).
