Tigers Inspired Rally Comes Up Short

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers opened up the 2009 home campaign with a tough 12-10 loss at the hands of Washington and Jefferson. Nearly repeating the comeback like their first outing, the Tigers trailed by as many as six before closing the deficit early in the second stanza. In the end, however, the Presidents had an answer for every Tiger run to hold on for the win.

Senior Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) tallied a hat trick in the second half alone, sparking the momentum shift. Classmate Cait Mather (Mason, Ohio/Mason) added a pair of her own after the Tigers fell behind 8-3 at the intermission.

The Presidents kept freshman goalkeeper Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapdis, Mich./East Grand Rapids) busy, forcing three saves in her first collegiate start.

Now 1-1, Wittenberg looks to rebound with little time to recuperate. A condensed home slate continues for Kati Robbins' women with a home date with Trine University this Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
