As Snow Falls, Tigers Slip Up At Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers battled both the frigid elements and a hot Oberlin Yeowomen team Saturday. The end result was a 14-7 loss to Oberlin.

The Tigers dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Oberlin moved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC. Wittenberg will try again for its first conference win since 2005 when Kenyon comes calling at Edwards-Maurer Field on Wednesday, April 11.

The Tigers held an early advantage in this one and the two teams were even at 4-4 through the first 26 minutes. But Oberlin scored the last three goals of the first half and, after Wittenberg pulled within two at 7-5 early in the second half, the Yeomen erupted for six unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.

Five Wittenberg players scored a goal in the game, including senior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington)and junior Molly Floyd (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) with two apiece. Senior Michelle Hanners (New Albany, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) added a goal and two assists to the attack.

Defensively, a pair of Tiger goaltenders combined for 15 saves, while sophomore Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led with six ground balls. Freshman Andrea Berry (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) added three ground balls and a team-best four caused turnovers.
