Tigers Lose to Kenyon In Rain-Soaked Game

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio- SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The lightning finally let up, but the rain never quit as the Wittenberg Tigers slipped and skidded their way to a loss to conference foe Kenyon, 11-17.

The Tigers dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Wittenberg will look to get back on the winning track in their next contest, a 2 p.m. game at Wooster on Saturday, April 14.

The Tigers began the game with a score to go up 1-0, but the Ladies of Kenyon answered quickly with two goals of their own to snag a lead they would never relinquish. Wittenberg outpaced Kenyon 14-8 in ground balls and 15-12 on draw controls, but it was Kenyon's red hot shooting (17 of 34) that proved to be too much for the Red and White.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by sophomore Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) who had two goals and two ground balls. Junior Amber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) also added two scores and picked up a game-best two assists. Not to be outdone, senior Melissa Jackson (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), who is suffering from an early season knee injury, came off the bench to notch her 100th career goal for the Tigers.

On the defensive end, freshman Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) gathered 15 saves against a relentless Kenyon attack. Five different Tigers were credited with a caused turnover, including sophomore Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales)who also added a team-best five draw controls.
