Wittenberg Falls To Ursinus On Spring Break Trip

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Wittenberg Tigers were unable to dig out from an early hole and eventually lost 13-6 to Ursinus in a Spring Break game in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Tigers, coming off a season-opening win over Salve Regina, trailed 7-1 by halftime. While their record evened out at 1-1 on the young season, the Tigers did show some fight with five goals in the second half.

Sophomore defender Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) turned in a fine game with team-highs of six ground balls and two caused turnovers, and the Tigers did actually outshoot the Bears by a 28-25 count. However, Ursinus' two goaltenders came up with 17 saves, compared to seven for the Tigers' netminding tandem of freshman Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) and junior Sarah Zane (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson).

Offensively, the Tigers were paced by sophomore Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) with two goals and sophomore Hannah Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) with one goal and one assist. Four other players contributed either a goal or an assist to the attack as the Tigers spread things around quite well.

Wittenberg is back in action one more time in sunny Florida as the Tigers hit the field Thursday opposite Widener.
