SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg University women's lacrosse has undergone a coaching change effective immediately, Director of Athletics and Recreation Garnett Purnell announced.

Field hockey head coach Diana Kuser has taken the reins of the team. She will be assisted for the 2006 season by Purnell and Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Pam Smith.

Kuser replaces Katherine Haney, who tendered her resignation. Including this year's 0-3 start, Haney had an 8-17 record in three seasons at the helm. She also has served as an assistant field hockey the last three seasons.

Kuser came to Wittenberg in 2005 and served as head coach of the field hockey team last fall. She led a young Tiger team to a 10-8 record, including a mark of 8-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. That was good for a three-way tie for second place in the NCAC regular season standings.

Purnell will continue with the men's golf head coaching duties he assumed in 2004, although he will increase the responsibilities of assistant coaches John Wilkinson and Jim Kincaid. Wilkinson is the assistant professional at Windy Knoll Golf Course in Springfield and has been working with the program for almost one year. Kincaid, a former All-America honoree as a player at Wittenberg in the 1980s, has been an assistant for the program since 2004.

A nationwide search for a new women's lacrosse coach will not commence until after the season.
