Tigers Lose One-Goal Game At Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Wittenberg Tigers are going through the kinds of growing pains that young teams frequently experience en route to reaching that championship level all aspire to each year. For the second straight day, the Tigers played well but couldn't quite come up with the goods in the end, this time falling 8-7 at Bridgewater.

Wittenberg, which dropped to 2-3 overall on the young season, led 5-2 at halftime but couldn't hang on, less than 24 hours after losing 12-8 at Lynchburg despite outshooting the host team. Bridgewater, which is now 1-5 on the season, turned the tables in the second half, outscoring its visitors 6-2 in the final 30 minutes.

In goal, sophomore Clare Bucheit finished with five saves. Offensively, the Tigers were paced by sophomore Kari Thomas with three goals and one assist. She was joined in the scoring column by sophomore Michelle Hanners with one goal and one assist, junior Emily Hiscar with one goal and one assist, sophomore Melissa Jackson with one goal, freshman Emine Cirpili with one goal and freshman Amber Cupples with one assist.
