SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - After 17 years and 109 wins at the helm of the Wittenberg University women's lacrosse program, Head Coach Nancy Beck has resigned the position. A search for her replacement will commence immediately.
Beck took over the program prior to the 1987 season and immediately led the team to a school-record tying 12 wins. In her first four seasons, the Tigers had winning records and advanced to the 1989 NCAA Division III Tournament. Since 1990, Wittenberg has had three additional winning seasons, including the 2003 campaign in which the Tigers finished 8-6 overall and a school-record (by winning percentage) 5-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Beck, who came to Wittenberg after serving as the assistant women's lacrosse coach and head field hockey and swimming coach at the College of Notre Dame in Maryland, concluded her Wittenberg career with a record of 109-146. Following the 2003 season, in which her team rallied from an 0-4 start, she was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career.
The Baltimore, Md., native also served as director of club sports and intramurals at Wittenberg. Beck earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Lynchburg College in 1978, where she lettered in lacrosse and field hockey.
