Women's Golf finishes 11th at Capitol Hill Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. — The Wittenberg women's golf team closed out the two-round Capitol Hill Classic on Tuesday with an 11th-place finish amongst a strong field of competitors. Tuesday's round was limited to nine holes due to heavy rain in the morning.

The Basics

  • Venue: Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Capitol Hill - Senator Course - Prattville, Ala., Par 72 (36 for 9 holes), Yardage: 5,672.
  • The tournament was hosted by Huntingdon College.
  • The 12-team field consisted of six teams ranked in the top 25 nationally in the latest NCAA Division III Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll in No. 1 Carnegie Mellon, No. 8 Washington-St. Louis, No. 10 Washington and Lee, No. 19 Mary Hardin-Baylor, No. 21 Rhodes and No. 23 Methodist as well as two teams that received votes in the poll in Denison and Huntingdon. The latest poll was released on March 15.
  • The field also included NYU, Christopher Newport and Huntingdon's B team.
  • This marked the Tigers' first competition since the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Oct. 15-16.
  • The course will host an Epson Tour event in September. The Epson Tour is the qualifying tour for the LPGA.

The Tournament

  • Wittenberg finished 11th in the 12-team field after shooting a 72-over-par 344-160—504. The Tigers finished ahead of the Huntingdon B team by 11 strokes and trailed 10th-place Christopher Newport by nine strokes.
  • The Tigers finished Monday's first round in 11th place, five strokes ahead of the Huntingdon B team and six strokes behind Christopher Newport.
  • No. 1 Carnegie Mellon won the team title, finishing at 11-over-par. NYU was second at 21-over-par, and No. 19 Mary Hardin-Baylor was third at 22-over-par.
  • Sophomore Hillary Humbaugh (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) finished as Wittenberg's top placer, shooting a 15-over-par 85-38—123 to tie for 44th in the 67-woman field.
  • Sophomore Izzy Selby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) finished 47th with a 16-over-par 82-42—124.
  • Senior Ellen Frame (Mason, Ohio/Mason) finished tied for 52nd with a 20-over-par 84-44—128.
  • Junior Halley McNair (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) finished 56th with a 22-over-par 94-36—130.
  • Junior Anna Longbrake (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) finished 65th with a 35-over-par 93-50—143.
  • Playing as an individual, freshman Taylor Rausch (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Mechanicsburg) finished 66th with a 45-over-par 106-47—153.
  • Carnegie Mellon's Alexis Sudjianto won individual medalist honors by one stroke, finishing at even par.
