Women’s Golf Finishes 2nd At NCAC Championships

Mansfield, Ohio – Led by a pair of players earning first-team All-NCAC accolades, the Wittenberg University Women's Golf team finished second out of six teams over the weekend at the 2019 NCAC Golf Championships, played at the par-72, 5,800-yard Westbrook C.C. in Mansfield. The tournament was condensed to a 36-hole event after inclement weather forced round one to be cancelled on Friday in Mansfield.

The Tigers held a narrow one-stroke lead over DePauw, 328-329, after the first round of competition on Saturday, but Wittenberg posted a 325 on Sunday compared to 320 for DePauw as the Indiana-Tigers captured their second-straight NCAC crown with a team score of 649. Wittenberg finished the championship event with a team score of 653.

Following Wittenberg and DePauw in the final teams standings was Denison third (679), Wooster in fourth (704), Ohio Wesleyan in fifth (711) and Allegheny in sixth (742). 

Individually, four of the five Wittenberg golfers earned All-NCAC honors at the two-day event, led by the duo of junior Madi Wolters and sophomore Erin Adams finishing in the top-five to earn first-team accolades. Wolters finished third overall with a two-day score of 157, which included posting a five-over score of 77 in the opening round on Saturday. In the two days combined, Wolters recorded two birdies and posted even-par scores on 20 of the 36 holes. Adams finished fourth overall in the individual standings with a 36-hole score of 159, highlighted by shooting a 79 in Sunday's final round. Adams, who carded a birdie on the fourth hole in Saturday's round, landed on the top team after securing even par scores on 21 of the 36 holes contested over the weekend. 

Senior Devon Atchison was one-stroke shy of landing on the first team as she collected second team honors after finishing sixth overall with a two-day score of 161. Atchison posted an opening-round 80 on Saturday, before closing out play on Sunday with an 81. Finally, junior Megan Selby earned a spot on the All-NCAC Honorable Mention team after she finished in a tie for 15th in the final standings with a 176 (91-85). 

In addition, senior Matison Leand closed out her collegiate career over the weekend by finishing 20th overall in the championship field with a two-day score of 182 (92-90).
