Hopkinson-Wood Tied for Second After Round One of NCAA Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Florida—Competing as an individual at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship, Jane Hopkinson-Wood fired a 75 (+2) in the first round of competition on Tuesday. Hopkinson-Wood's round of two-over places the Tiger's senior phenom tied for second place with Holly Davenport and Cordelia Chan of Williams College. Charlotte Simpson of Carnegie Mellon stands atop the leaderboard after 18 holes with an opening round 73 (E).

The Pottstown, PA native led the field in par-four scoring with an average of par, while totaling 12 total pars in her opening round. Hopkinson-Wood recorded birdies on hole number four at the El Campeon Golf Course, a 244-yard par four, and another on hole number 16, a 344-yard par four. A solid start to her final NCAA Tournament, Hopkinson-Wood finished even on the front nine, before giving back two-strokes after making the turn.  

Hopkinson-Wood gets another crack at the back-nine right out of the gates tomorrow in round two, setting her sights on a 2:20 P.M. tee-time off-of hole number 10.

Claremont-Mudd Scrips and Williams College lead the field as a team after round one, after both schools carded five-player totals of 311 (+19). Carleton College, New York University and Carnegie Mellon are gridlocked in third place at 321 (+29).
