Wittenberg Golf | Women Finish 8th, Men 10th at Rain-Shortened Callaway Garden's Collegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Georgia—Mother Nature got the best of day two of the 2018 Callaway Garden's Collegiate on Tuesday, as only eight holes of play were completed. Monday's first round stands as the only carded round of the event, leaving Wittenberg with an eighth-place finish on the women's side, and a tenth-place finish for the men.

In 18 holes of work, the men finished +15 on the Par 72, 6,934-yard Mountain View course. Junior Chris Eigner led the Tigers with a T16 finish at one-over. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native finished the front nine one-over, and turned it on when he got to the back nine. Eigner went one-under for the tournament after birdieing hole number 11, a 508-yard par five. After bogeying holes number 14 and 15, Eigner got back to one-under after birdieing hole number 17. Eigner's round would finish at one-over after recording a double-bogey on the 18th hole.

Colin Laszlo (+4), Isaac Hartley (+5), Cooper Taylor (+5), and Cameron Willis (+6) rounded out day one for the Tigers, as Laszlo served as the Tiger's second highest individual performance with a T49 finish.

As a team, the Tigers recorded an opening round 303, 13 strokes off second place Methodist, and 18 strokes off of eventual tournament champions Oglethorpe who finished the tournament as three-under at a team.

The number one player in the country, Jane Hopkinson-Wood, led the Tigers on the women's side, as the Tiger's senior superstar finished one-over, good enough for a T5 finish. Hopkinson-Wood was also named to the 2018 Callaway Garden's Collegiate All-Tournament Team after carding a 73 at the 5,837 Lake View course. The Pennsylvania native made the turn at one-under after birdieing holes four and five, but Hopkinson-Wood would drop a stroke back to even on the back after carding a bogey on hole number 13. Finishing the back at one-over sent Hopkinson-Wood into the clubhouse even for the round, and good enough for fifth place.

As a team, Wittenberg finished in eighth in the rain-shortened tournament, as Matison Leand served as the Tigers next best finisher at T34 (+9) in round one. Firing a 323 as a team, the Tigers finished four strokes off seventh place Oglethorpe, and six strokes off of Berry College and Birmingham-Southern who finished tied for fifth. Methodist was the eventual winner of the tournament at six-over.
