Tigers Move Up To Fourth Place At Illinois Wesleyan

NORMAL, Ill. - For the second straight year, Wittenberg's women's golf team put together a second-day rally that netted the Tigers a fourth-place finish in the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic.

Williams Woods, a nationally ranked NAIA program, took first place in the competition with a two-day total of 624, followed by Mount Mercy with 632. The host Titans claimed third in 633, with Wittenberg and Carthage close behind at 637 and 639, respectively.

Wittenberg stood sixth after the first day after shooting a team score of 317. In more challenging weather conditions on Sunday, the Tigers carded a collective score of 320, which tied Williams Woods for the third-best round of the day.

Individually, sophomore Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) carded matching 78s to lead the Tigers with an eighth-place finish. Sophomore Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) was next in 12th place with a two-round score of 158, while junior Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) also placed in the top 20 with a score of 161.

Rounding things out were freshman Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) in 28th place with a 163 and junior Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) in 49th with a 168.
