Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University’s women’s golf team has been announced as one of the top 25 teams with the highest cumulative team grade point average by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). The Tigers ranked 15th across all NCAA divisions and first among Division III programs with a 3.682 GPA for the 2013-14 school year.

The University of Texas-El Paso ranked first with a 3.840 grade point average. Wittenberg was one of just two NCAA Division III programs in the top 25.

“I am very proud of the work the women in our program have done to put Wittenberg in such impressive company,” said Head Coach Jeff Roope. “They always give a great effort both in the classroom and on the golf course, and it is reflected in the high level of achievement both academically and athletically.”

Previously, sophomore Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown), juniors Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) and Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) and freshman Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) were honored by the WGCA with All-American Scholar awards. They were among 664 women’s collegiate golfers across all three NCAA divisions to earn the prestigious honor in 2014. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 competitive rounds.

All eight members of the Wittenberg women’s golf team in the 2013-14 season made the Dean’s List following the spring semester.

Wittenberg ranked in the NCAA Division III top 25 throughout the 2013-14 season for a third straight year. The Tigers finished in the top five in nine of their 10 tournaments, including both competitions that made up the season-ending North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship Series.

The Tigers placed second in the NCAC Championship Series and just missed out on an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Five Wittenberg golfers earned 2014 All-NCAC honors after placing in the top 15 in the NCAC Championship Series.
