Tigers Finish Seventh At Loaded Washington U. Spring Invitational

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Wittenberg Tigers showed well in a loaded field at the Washington University Spring Invitational, placing seventh out of 20 teams.

The Tigers, ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III national poll, carded a two-day total of 664, just one stroke behind 11th-ranked St. Olaf and three back of ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan for a spot in the top five. William Woods, ranked fifth in NAIA, won the competition with a 623, followed by Wittenberg's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival DePauw, ranked sixth nationally, at 631, third-ranked host Washington University at 636 and 17th-ranked Birmingham Southern at 659.

Individually, sophomore Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) led the Tigers with a two-day total of 161 to finish in 13th place in the 114-player field. She was followed by freshman Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), who covered the par-72, 5865-yard course at Gateway National Links in 91 on Day 1 but a team-best 76 on Day 2 to place 33rd with a 167.

Rounding things out for Wittenberg, freshman Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) placed 41st with a 169, sophomore Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) took 48th with a 170, and junior Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) finished in 62nd with a 174.
