DELAWARE, Ohio — The Wittenberg women's golf team has picked the perfect time to peak. The Tigers placed second in a 15-team field at The Bump Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Mill Creek Golf Club.

The only team to top the Tigers was 11th-ranked North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival Allegheny, which totaled 663 over the two days. Wittenberg finished just six strokes behind, covering the par-72, 5821-yard course.

The strong finish, coming on the heels of a record-breaking performance at Washington University two weeks earlier, gave the Tigers plenty of momentum heading into the NCAC Championship Series over the next two weekends. Allegheny and Oberlin are hosting the two events, with two rounds each weekend.

Individually, sophomore Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) led the Tigers with a tremendous two-day total of 162, good for a three-way tie for third place. She carded an 82 on a rainy, cool opening day and followed that with an 80 on a warm, windy second day.

Freshman Rachel Steiner (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West) was close behind, earning a spot in a five-way tie for seventh place with a 164. Senior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) was next with a 170, good for 22nd place.

Rounding out the scorers for the Tigers were freshman Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) with a 174, good for 28th, and freshman Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) with a 175, good for 34th. One of the players to match Wong's score was senior Carrie Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), and she was followed closely by sophomore Miranda Pettit (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) with a 177, good for 38th.
