Wittenberg Women's Golf Standout Earns National Academic Award

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University women's golf standout Jenna Gentner, class of 2014 from Rocky River, Ohio, was recently honored by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) with an All-American Scholar award.

Gentner was one of 85 NCAA Division III 2010-11 NGCA All-American Scholar recipients. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 rounds while holding an adjusted scoring average of 95 or better.

Gentner finished her inaugural collegiate season with a stroke average of 89.8 while playing 14 tournaments over the course of the 2010-11 school year. Her best individual round came at Illinois Wesleyan in September 2010, when she carded a second-round 83. Her best two-round total came a week later at the DePauw Small College Classic, a 173 that put her in a tie for 26th.

She went on to add a top 10 finish at the year-ending North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship in May 2011, placing ninth in a field of 29 golfers with a two-round total of 178. That finish earned Gentner second-team All-NCAC honors.

Wittenberg placed second as a team in the first-ever NCAC Championships, finishing behind only national powerhouse Allegheny. The Tigers were ranked in the top 20 nationally and the top five in the Great Lakes Region for most of the spring portion of the season.

The Tigers are scheduled to open the 2011-12 season at Trine University for the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Sept. 2-3.
