Wittenberg Struggles To Eighth At Ohio Dominican

PATASKALA, Ohio — The Wittenberg Tigers officially hit the homestretch of the 2009 fall season with an eighth-place finish in the 12-team Auld Crafters Kisor Classic, hosted by Ohio Dominican University at Cumberland Trail Golf Club. 

The Tigers finished on the short end of a three-way battle for sixth place, ending up one stroke behind the University of Northwestern Ohio and two behind Malone College. Wittenberg's fate as a middle of the pack team was sealed on Day 1 of the tournament as the Tigers posted a 373, 43 strokes behind eventual champion Walsh and 45 behind eventual second-place finisher Otterbein, the top finisher among four NCAA Division III programs in the competition.

The Tigers rallied on Day 2, improving their score by a whopping 26 strokes - easily the biggest swing among the 12 teams in the tournament between the two rounds of the tournament. Overall, Wittenberg's score of 720 was 73 strokes behind Walsh and 64 behind runner-up Otterbein.

Individually, Wittenberg was paced by sophomore Nicole Momsen (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula), who was the steadiest Tiger in the tournament with rounds of 87-84 for a total of 171, good for a 12th-place tie. Sophomore Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) rebounded from a 95 in the opening round to card a team-best 81 in the second round and move into a tied for 22nd place.

Rounding out the Tigers' individual finishes, freshmen Jenna Lisic (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) and Meghann Greene (North Royalton, Ohio/Padua Franciscan)finished at 187 and 188 overall, respectively, good for 38th and 39th places. Sophomore Heather Hendrickson (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Luers) posted a 194, good for 45th.
