Springfield, Ohio — Carrie Frey, class of 2012 from Cincinnati, Ohio, started her week with a surprising first-place finish in the 2009 National Trail Parks and Recreation Springfield Women's City Amateur Golf Tournament. She ended it with the announcement of her selection to the NCAA Division III National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women's All-American Scholar Team.

Frey, who finished her inaugural collegiate season with a 91.9 scoring average in a team-high 18 rounds in 2008-09, came from two strokes behind on the second day of the City Amateur Tournament to pull off the win. Her two-day total of 167 at Snyder Park in Springfield was good for a one-stroke victory, the first ever for a Tiger women's golfer.

Three days later, Frey was named an NGCA All-American Scholar, an honor bestowed upon student-athletes who earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and compete in at least 66 percent of her team's competitions. She is majoring in education at Wittenberg.

Frey was part of a freshman class that made a tremendous impact on the Wittenberg women's golf program, which defeated more than 50 percent of its opponents in tournament competition in 2008-09. It was the first time that has happened since women's golf became a full-fledged varsity sport at Wittenberg in 2002.

The Tigers also won a pair of tournaments during the 2008-09 season, taking first place at Ohio Dominican's Auld Crafter's Kisor Classic at Cumberland Trail Golf Course in October 2008 and at Muskingum's Spring Invitational at River Greens Golf Course in April 2009.
