Three Score In Double Figures as Wittenberg Women's Basketball Falls 69-62 At DePauw

Greencastle, Indiana - Three players scored in double figures in the Wittenberg women's basketball team's 69-62 loss at DePauw on Wednesday night at Neal Fieldhouse.

Wittenberg is now 14-5 overall and 7-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while DePauw improved to 16-5 overall and 9-1 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg entered Wednesday's game riding a five-game win streak since falling 70-60 to DePauw on Jan. 10.

Junior Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (Bladensburg, Md. / Elizabeth Seton) led Wittenberg in scoring with 16 points to go with five rebounds. Junior Riane Burton (Houston, Tex. / Cypress Ranch) tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, and junior Taryn Cash (Cincinnati, OH / Princeton) added 14 points and seven assists.

Ava Hassel led DePauw with 19 points.

Wittenberg built an 11-4 lead to open the game and took a 17-14 edge into the second quarter.

The visiting Tigers led 35-30 at halftime and remained ahead until DePauw tied the score at 42-all with 2:44 left in the third period.

DePauw entered the fourth quarter up 49-46, but Wittenberg regained the lead at 52-51 on a layup from Gaines-Burnes with 6:54 remaining.

A pair of free throws from Burton brought Wittenberg within one, 61-60, with 1:11 left, but DePauw responded with a 5-0 run en route to the victory.

Wittenberg shot 36.7% from the floor to DePauw's 35.6% and finished with a 34-20 edge in points in the paint. DePauw held a 44-35 edge in rebounds.
