Total Domination For Tiger Women's Basketball At Wooster

Wooster, Ohio - The Wittenberg women's basketball team bounced back from its first North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) loss of the 2023-24 season against DePauw on January 10 by dominating host Wooster by a final score of 90-32.

The win moved the Tigers to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the NCAC, while Wooster dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the league.

After spotting the Scots the opening basket of the game, the Tigers responded with seven straight points and never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, Wittenberg held a commanding 24-8 advantage, and by halftime the lead had grown to 47-16. Over the final 20 minutes, the Tigers substituted liberally en route to their biggest margin of victory of the campaign.

Wittenberg shot 56.9 percent from the field, compared to just 18.3 percent for Wooster. The Tigers won the rebounding battle by 12 and also forced 27 Wooster turnovers in the game.

Individually, four Tigers reached double figures in scoring and a whopping 14 different players found their way onto the scoresheet. Riane Burton (Houston, Texas/Cypress Ranch) led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench. Kelsey Ragan (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) added 15 points, all on three-pointers, in 18 minutes on the floor.

Also of note statistically, Jazmyn Gaines-Burns (Bladensburg, Maryland/Elizabeth Seton) and Jade Simpson (Edgewood, Kentucky/Holy Cross) finished with 10 points apiece, and Taryn Cash (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) contributed nine points. Simpson matched Burton's total of eight rebounds, and Cash stuffed the stats sheet with four rebounds and four assists.
